Thankful Thursday

Hi everyone! Welcome to another edition of Thankful Thursday. As usual you can play along in the comments or do an entry of your own..

  1. I am thankful for school, although if you heard me cursing my statistics homework you would not know it!
  2. I am thankful for my friends, because they will come to my house and cut my cat’s nails because I am too chickenshit to do it.
  3. I am thankful for the weather lately! It has been cool and beautiful, well, except for the rain and that is beautiful in it’s own way.
  4. I am thankful for the fans in my bedroom, because we live on the 8th floor and hot air rises, sometimes it is not as cool as it should be.
  5. I am thankful for all my readers, because you guys read all this crazy shit I write. Love you!

  4. I wish that sometimes I did not feel so mad all the time

Tuesdays Ramblings

Sunday was my first statistics seminar and I have to say that my teacher makes it sound so easy to pass her class. It may turn out to be that easy, but sometimes a lot of work goes into making things look easy. Last night was the first seminar in child psych.

As much as I like the seminars, I hate the first ones of the class because everyone is intent on talking and chatting and the instructor has to go over and over the same thing. It is kind of annoying! Today is the final day in week 1 of both of my classes. Seems like this week has dragged on forever!

Tomorrow week 2 starts and I have already begun the statistics reading for week 2. As long as I stay ahead or even with this class I should be okay. I do not want to fall behind that is for sure! At least I get to use Excel to help me with it as well.

I am kind of tired this morning because yesterday I did not sleep well at all. I am not sure why. Oh wait, it was because Doug kept tossing and turning. Ugh. I hate that. Hopefully today will be much better!

Tonight is dinner at Trina’s as usual. I am really looking forward to that! Tonight is also NCIS and NCIS LA. I love both of those shows! I recently watched Percy Jackson: The Lightning Thief, which was pretty good. I also saw The Stranger, which was pretty good too. I still have Iron Man to watch because Iron Man 2 comes out today on DVD. I have it on my Netflix. I can’t wait!

Well, I think I am going to go. Ciao!

Weekend Wrap Up

This weekend, aside from dinner with Doug’s aunt and uncle has been pretty quiet. Saturday was a lazy day with both if us having headaches, so naps were taken.

Sunday is my statistics seminar at 9pm. So, far this class is going well. My teacher puts things in plain English, which is great for me! She also boils it down to the simplest terms for me. Which is nice. As long as I do not fall behind, I should be okay in this class.

Tonight is my child psych seminar, which is at 8pm. Not too late which is good because by about that time I am tired! I know that this seminar will not have a ton of new information because it is the first one of the class. So, I can listen and cruise.

With school, they are trying a new thing called flexible seminars. Meaning that I have about 3-4 different seminars to choose from to attend, so if Monday at 8 does not work for me next week, I can go to another. I think that this is a great idea!

They are also updating the class rooms as well. I have one class that has been updated and one that has not been. No big deal though. Hope your weekend was good! Ciao!

Dinner Tonight

**** This post has been approved by Doug*****

The reason for the approval banner is that I really do not want to get any comments from certain people about the following post. I have permission to post this….

Tonight we took Doug’s Aunt Dorothy and Uncle Marty to dinner as our way of thanking them for the wonderful job they did on the Shiva for Doug’s dad when he died. We had made plans a while ago and then we moved, so we did dinner tonight.

It was a wonderful night. We went to Bonefish in Novi. They had fantastic food and it was a really nice place. We went to Dorothy and Marty’s house then they drove from there. They just got a new car, so it was a nice ride! I think it was a Crossover.

We had a good time over dinner talking about Doug’s dad and other various family members. Just catching up because it has been about three months since we last saw them. Dorothy told a few really hilarious stories that had me laughing until my sides hurt!

We all enjoyed our dinners and everyone but Marty had dessert. Since they had crème brulee, you know that I had to try it! It was so amazing. I maintain my stance that it is truly evil stuff…

After dinner we sat at the table and had a great time talking and telling stories. All in all a wonderful night. I am so glad that we did this with them. When we left we made plans for them to take us to dinner next time! Yay! Something to look forward to… Ciao!

Wednesday Wishes

Hi everyone! Welcome to this weeks edition of Wednesday’s Wishes. As usual, you can play along in the comments or in an entry of your own. If you do your won entry please leave a link so that I can visit… On to the wishes!

  1. I am wishing that I am not taking this statistics class. It is really irrelevant though because I have to take it to get my degree. *sigh*
  2. I wish that I had not failed the child psych class. This is kind of wishful thinking on my part. At the end of this class, I had hit a wall and did not have a strong finish.
  3. I am wishing for another week off, but that will not happen because the aforementioned classes start today…
  4. I am wishing for enough math wisdom to get me through statistics.
  5. I wish that my friends and family have a great week!

Weekend Wrap Up & School

This last weekend was pretty uneventful. It was really nice and quiet too. Doug had a meeting at work on Sunday, so we went to breakfast after that, which is very unusual for us. When we got back, we just hung around the house and pretty much did nothing.

As for school, this has been my week off of classes, so that is good. I found out today that I only failed one of my classes and not both, which I am ecstatic about! I have to retake my child and adolescent psych class, but take statistics with it. I get the feeling that I am going to be very busy for the next 10 weeks.

I am happy that I did not fail both classes, but kind of mad at myself that I even failed one. I know that I can not be perfect, but it is frustrating.. Ciao!

Saturday

Today the Comcast tech was supposed to be here between 2-5pm. He was actually early and was gone by 2:17pm. Which was nice. We were up really late last night, so I slept until like 12:30pm or so. Doug woke me up when he left to run some errands. During that time, it was like Grand Central Station with the phone.

I am making beef vegetable soup tonight for dinner. I actually need to go season the meat here soon. Last night was the first time in a very long time that I was up until like 4-4:30am. Ugh. I am too old for that I think.

I have a headache now as well. I am going to go get the stuff done I need to do. Michigan won today, so we are happy in this house today… Ciao!

Friday Thoughts

Since usually by Friday I really don’t have a lot to say, I usually just let my mind take me on a journey in the entry. It could be a pretty coherent post or not so much.

If you read my blog, I made sweet tea yesterday morning. Aside from the hilarious water issue (NOT!) it came out pretty good. Not perfect as the sugar ration is still off by a little bit. When I would make tea in Florida I had gallon pitchers, so I knew that 1 and 1/2 cups of sugar made the perfect tea. Now I am using a 2 quart pitcher, I started with a cup of sugar last night and it needs a bit more, so when I make it again I will add a 1/4 cup and see.

I watched Letters to Juliet last night and it was good. It was a very cute movie and it was sort of sad, but the ending was great! I have The Notebook coming, I have never seen it. I get the idea that I will need to have the tissues handy.

So, between the moving and the slight internet issues, I think that I managed to fail both of my classes. Nice. So, we will see what happens now. I am afraid to tell Doug.

I had to deal with Comcast tech support again yesterday, although it was for the HD DVR box in the bedroom this time. The issue is that when it has been on for a bit, it does not want to turn off or turn back on with the remote. So, you have to unplug it to reset it and it is fine for a bit. Since this only happens after a while I am waiting to see if it still does it. The person I spoke with today sent a signal to the box and hopefully that will fix it.

Life is still good in the new place. Although it is strange to be on the 8th floor. Kinda cool when the storms move in though. Since the place faces East, I see the sun rise every morning which is kind of cool too. Although some mornings I think that I might sear my retinas. Who knew the sun was so bright? I have lived in the basement for the last few years. Go figure.

It is nice to have a bath tub again too. I am enjoying the heck out of that! Speaking of which I am headed there now! Ciao!

Thankful Thursday 2 For 1

Hi everyone! It is time for another edition of Thankful Thursday and there is also an actual entry here too. I will do the entry first then my Thankful lists. As usual, you can play along in the comments or in an entry of your own, if you happen to do your own entry please come back and leave me a link so I can read your Thankfuls. Okay, on to the entry!

This morning I decided to make some sweet tea. It is not hard at all to make if you have a coffee maker. Okay, so it is not  hard at all even if you don’t have a coffee maker. Anyway, we have a brand new coffee maker that had never been used, so since I don’t drink coffee, I commandeered it for tea. Now, I used to make sweet tea in Florida, so it is easy. The only issue that I am having is in Florida I used gallon pitchers, so I had the sugar ratio perfected. I am using a 2 quart pitcher now, so it is a work in progress. But I am excited.

Aside from the fact that it is a new coffee maker and I had no idea where to put the water, which went all over the floor in the first try, it was smooth sailing. I cleaned the water up and tried again and actually found the place where the water went and it was all good from there. It is now in the pitcher chilling in the fridge. Yay me!

I am still looking for dishes. I went back to Salvation Army and the set that I really liked was gone, of course. So, I found something at Wal-Mart, it is not as big as I want, but I will end up with two sets of it before it is all said and done, so that will be fine. At the Salvation Army, I saw a set that had all the dinner plates, salad plates, bowls, cup and saucers, as well as the creamer and a gravy boat. That is what I wanted. Oh well. Serves me right for not getting them then. *sigh*

I actually found a table and chairs that I liked at Wal-Mart too. It is a nice set, but waiting to see if it goes on sale soon. As it stands right now, I have a card table for a dinner table that we do  not use. I need to get it cleaned off so I can start using it for that.

On to the Thankful Thursdays!

  1. I am thankful for God working miracles in my life. Without Him, this would not have turned out as well as it did.
  2. I am thankful for my children, who I love so much even if they don’t think that I do.
  3. I am thankful that my apartment faces East and I can see the sun rise every single morning. It is so beautiful and amazing.
  4. I am thankful that I have Netflix right now. While I am still learning the new channels.
  5. I am thankful for all my readers who continue to share their lives with me and their wisdom as well. I love you guys!

Weekend Recap

Last weekend (this one just past) was not all that busy really. There was stuff to do,  but Doug has returned to work so getting back into that routine has been rather difficult for us both it seems. When he took time off to move, it was fine because we were on a ‘normal’ schedule. Meaning we were up during the day and sleeping at night. He works nights, so now we are moving back to being up nights and sleeping during the day.

Although I will admit it is nice and quiet when we are sleeping during the day now though. The cat sitting went well. Chloe was happy to go home after though. We were glad that we could help the cousin out with that particular issue this weekend ( over the Jewish New Year).

We went to a place called The Redcoat Tavern on Saturday. While the food was pretty good, I don’t think that we will be going back for a while though. Simply because they nickel and dime you there and I hate that!

Friday night after dinner at Red Lobster, we went to see Trina. It was a nice stop because we got to talk to Cindy, the lady that owns the place and we got to make suggestions for new items on the menu. I love it when I get input like that! As a matter of fact, on Tuesday at Country Boy, they are making me fettuccini Alfredo with grilled chicken and putting it on the menu. John ( the chef @ Country Boy) makes the best Alfredo sauce I have ever had. I am so looking forward to that!

Yesterday I was feeling under the weather. Nothing really specific, but just achy and icky, so I did not do much. Doug made waffles for the first time with his new waffle maker. They were good. He found this sugar free syrup and it was so good! So we had a pretty good breakfast. Tonight I think that we are having taco salad.

I think that is it for now! Ciao!

Today and Dinner Last Night

Normally I would be doing a post for 9/11, however, today I have spent the day remembering the one special person I lost on 9/11. I spoke with his mom and sister today. When I lived in Florida they would come over and we would spend the day together, but since I moved to Michigan we talk on this day.

He was very special to me. So, today was dedicated to him.

Last night we went to dinner at Red Lobster for Endless Shrimp. That is the only time we go to Red Lobster every year. I have to say that the shrimp was amazing. All the kids they have this year I totally loved. We will most likely go back a couple of more times.

  4. I am thankful for my friends both online and off.

So, you know how this is done, you can play along in the comments or do your own entry. If you do your own entry, please stop by and leave me a link. On to the wishes!

  1. I wish that I was back on my normal schedule. It was nice at first to be on a different schedule, but I know I will have a really hard time getting back to normal.
  2. I wish that I had this peace earlier.
  3. I wish that my mom would lay off my daughter on Face book.
  4. I wish that I did not have to do my final papers for school.
  5. I wish that there was not so many great things on to watch on TV.

Tuesday and The American

the-american-posterToday started out nice. Quiet. No stress. Wonderful. Last night Doug, his cousin Michael and I went to see ‘The American’ with George Clooney. I am going to have to say some things that I never thought I would about a George Clooney movie.

I really did not like ‘The American’ and this is why, first off, there was like only fifteen minutes of action in the whole movie. The rest is dialog and scenery. I will admit that the Italian scenery is beautiful, but the movie is billed as a thriller. It is not. Not even close. My advice is to wait until it comes out on DVD to see it if you want to.

I am disappointed that we wasted money on this movie…. Ciao!

Lazy Sunday

I have to admit that having two TV’s in the house is so very nice. While living at the house, I had to watch whatever Doug was watching. If his dad was not home, I could go upstairs and ‘commandeer’ his dad’s TV for a bit, but usually not long. So, this new found ability to watch what I want to watch all the time is wonderful!

Sandy came over today and surprised up by taking us to lunch at a rib place that is not that far away from here. It was really yummy! We left with some food left over and a carry-out menu for a later visit.

Made some more progress on getting stuff put away. In the process finding things that we need from Wal-Mart as well. We will need a storage space I am sure for those things that get little use, but we can not totally get rid of either.

Came upon an issue last night, the oven did not work. Called this morning and within 20 minutes the maintenance guy was here to fix it and it works great now. So, that was taken care of quickly. Which is nice.

I have to call Tuesday to have the phone turned off at the house. No big deal. The cable and internet should be off Monday or so. It is so strange to be in our own place all the time now. It kind of feels like we are on vacation for now.

I will take some pictures soon I promise. Ciao!

Saturday

I am waiting for the Comcast guy to come and install the other DVR box. Of course it is between 12-3pm. Not like I have any place to go, because I do not.

I am tired today because I am having a difficult time sleeping here. I will get used to it eventually. Hopefully soon.

Today was an exercise in futility with Comcast. As the first part of this entry was written earlier today, the Comcast person never showed up because I wanted to upgrade my service to what I wanted in the first place, they cancelled my DVR box. When I called about it and they put the work order in for the DVR box for Weds, I was told that my programming update would have to wait until then. Um, I think not.

I had the email for the Operations Supervisor in Southfield. So, I emailed him and let him know I was upset. Not only did my DVR box arrive today, but so did my programming update as well. LOL. I hate being like that, but I was pissed because no one said anything about the installation being cancelled because of the programming upgrade. So, I was waiting on someone who was not coming. I had no idea that he was not coming. That is what pissed me off.

I am happy now because everything is as it should be now. Yay! Ciao!

First Whole Day In Our New Place

Last night was a rough night. It is hard to sleep in a new place. There are new noises to get used to and new lay outs to get used to. All in all, I am happy to be here. We have 90% of all the stuff that we need.

I knew that the whole Comcast thing went way too smoothly. Of course there have been small issues, as there always is when new technology is set up. That is not the issue. The issue was and still is that I was very clear about the channels I needed and wanted and the dingbat I dealt with did not do what I wanted. Ugh. So now, I think that I got it all fixed today.

I do not have the space I thought I would for a table and chairs, so I have to look at bistro tables with chairs. Not what I wanted, but it will be a table and chairs. I just had a great idea too. LOL. Funny how that works sometimes. The kitty is a happy camper today because she has a window to look out of and a new kitty condo thing that was given to us for her. She totally loves it!

I will take pictures in the next couple of days when I get some more of the boxes gone. I like it. It is nice to have a kitchen again. Well, I am gonna go. Ciao!

Cat and Furniture Day

The cat has landed. It actually was better than I thought it would be. She did freak out in the car, but I think that was because she does not like the car. Doug carried her in the elevator and into the house. For a while she would not leave the bathroom, now she is hiding in the closet in the bedroom. I got her to come out for a few minutes of petting a bit ago.

I am waiting on the boys to get back with the furniture. We are not supposed to use the freight elevator until 2pm today, so they may be here and sitting in the truck waiting to be able to bring up the stuff. There are some things still at the house that we can get later. I am exhausted! My back is killing me and I sure did not get enough sleep last night. I was tossing and turning all night. Ugh.

We ended up getting another DVR box for the bedroom, because with the other box apparently we would not get all the channels in there. I don’t care really. I am just happy that we are almost done and totally here. I am tired of living between houses. I am so over this moving thing too.

We are talking about seeing The American tonight with George Clooney. It looks good. Not sure if we will be able to see it tonight though. I have a lecture that I can not miss at 7pm. We will see. If not, we will see it Saturday maybe.

I almost have all the bathroom stuff put away. Would you believe 5 boxes?!?! I have thrown so much stuff away since I have been here. Old shampoo, old medication, that kind of stuff.

I think that is it for now. If we go tonight I will let you know how the movie is. Ciao!

It Went Well

So, I am back online now. Today went well. Better than expected actually. The Comcast guy was amazing and here a bit after noon. He had to leave in the middle, but I was okay with that. He just had a son about eight weeks ago and his son needed to get his shots today and he wanted to be there. So, I was fine with him leaving to go there and come back. The doctor’s office was close anyway. He actually had most of it done by then too.

I got lucky, apparently Comcast is trying out these new modem gateways. Kind of like AT&T’s gateway. So, I did not need a router as originally thought for wireless. Which made me really happy. I got caller ID on the TV and my lap top , which is kind of cool. So far, everything works great. I think that I have it all set up to where I will only have to plug the gateway into the computer.

Tomorrow is the moving the furniture and cat day. The cat part I am not looking forward to really, but once she is here, she will be fine. It is just getting her here without me being ripped to shreds. LOL. I have done a lot today, my back is rebelling against me. We are going to eat later and then go back to the house for one more night. Tomorrow will be the first night in the new place. Ciao!
