Mine Is the Night–A Book Review

In this book by Liz Curtis Higgs, there are so many wonderful characters that come alive. This story is set in Scotland in 1746. I will admit that I did have a hard time at first getting into this book because of how it is written. Higgs likes to use authentic Scottish terms and cadence in her writing, which to the modern person can be a bit confusing. She does include a nice little glossary in the back, so that you can look up any word that you might not know. I found that there were a great many words that I thought I knew, but did not!

The romance in this book is very subtle and wonderfully told, you find yourself rooting for the characters and hoping that they find what they are looking for. Higgs also uses many wonderful Bible scriptures through out the book as well. Which made me want to look them up and read them on my own.

I loved this book when I got into it and I am glad that I did not let myself give up after the first couple of chapters because I would have missed a wonderfully told story. Mine Is the Night is a heartwarming story about learning to love and trust again as well as trusting in the Lord to change you and get you where you need to be in your life. I know I will read this book again and again. It became one of my favorites! I will also see out Higg’s other works to see if I like them as much as this one. I highly recommend this book!

Monday Finds Me…

Still sick. I am tired as well, mostly from being up coughing. I actually ended up falling asleep in the recliner finally because I was not laying down flat, but sitting up a bit. I stopped coughing.

I got my next book for review today. It is a large one, so it might take me a bit to get through it. As soon as I am done, I will post my review here. School is good. In the last week of class. Well, it starts tomorrow.

Then on to social psychology. Already have the book for that, so no book issues this time! I am cutting this short so I can go relax and rest. Ciao!

What Has Been Going On Lately

Hello all. I know I have been away for a while. With the exception of my book review, I have taken a small break from blogging because there was a lot of stuff going on that I had to deal with. My best friend, Julie’s mom was back in the hospital and is still there, but doing much better now. For a while we all thought that we would lose her, but she is fighting and holding her own now. Which is a relief to me. She is very much like a second mom to me.

I have been sick for the last week and dealing with everyday things and school was about all I could handle. I am getting better little by little finally, but still so very tired. Seems like even the day time medication is knocking me for a loop as well. School is going well. I am using all my energy to keep up in class.

I have started reading a new series called the ‘Mitford Series’. I am enjoying it a lot. I am on book 2 and have ordered book 3. It is Christian fiction and very uplifting. On that front, I have started attending church services and have been very blessed there as well. After church I always feel very uplifted and happy. I most likely will not go tomorrow because of being sick still, there is a lady there who has a brand new grandbaby so it is best that I stay home until I well.

The book reviews will continue here because I belong to a site that will send you books for free as long as you write a review on your blog/website. You also have to use that review on Amazon or Barnes and Noble as well as their site. I love to read, so I get books for free. Can’t beat that!! So, look for the reviews. I hope to be back semi regular this next week. As energy permits. Until then, Ciao!

Breath of Angel- A Book Review

Karyn Henley begins the Angeleon Circle with Breath of Angel, in which we find Melaia, a priestess who sees a weary traveler killed in front of her. After this life altering event, things get out of hand. She is given to another Lord as a gift with a special harp that is not hers.
As she travels to the kingdom of Redcliff, she begins to see things she has only heard about in her songs and stories. When she gets to Redcliff, things kind of explode for her as she is taken in as a slave.
As she continues she meets all kinds of beings that she has only heard about in stories and songs. Myths are coming alive right before her eyes.
As I read this book, I was drawn into how the characters were revealed to the reader. At first glance, what you thought you knew about a character turns  out to be wrong later. So many layers to this story make it a very entertaining read.
I read this book in under twenty-four hours, mostly because I was sucked into it and could not put it down. Since this is only book one in a series, it does end a bit abruptly but leaves you wanting to read the next installment right away!!
I had never read this author before but I find her story telling enthralling and entertaining. She slowly reveals things about the characters that keep you turning the pages until the very end.

I Apparently Missed It

In the realm of things that I missed lately, I apparently missed the fact that this blog was a year old yesterday. How on Earth did I manage that?!?!?! I know I have been missing a lot lately with getting people moved to the new FB page and all. The other one was deleted so if I missed you, sorry!! School is going well. Intense class. Not totally unexpected though. I am doing well. Tired but well. I will be back soon.

Friday, Friday, Friday!

Not that it really matters to me these days. Although I am happy that it is Friday. Usually we go out to dinner, but not sure that I want to go out tonight or not. I know that we are going to lunch with friends on Saturday. Which I am looking forward to very much. I also might be going to church on Sunday, so we will see.

I am really tired this morning. Have a slight headache as well. Ugh. I hate that. I woke up yesterday afternoon freezing! OMG I am hardly cold, but I was crazy freezing yesterday.

School is going well so far, which is good. Well, I am going to go for now. Ciao!

Wednesday’s Wishes

Hi everyone!! Okay, it has been a long time since I did a Wednesday’s Wishes, so I thought it was time to start again. As always, you can play along in the comments or in an entry of your own.

  1. I wish that I had not fallen Monday morning. Since I can not change that, well, I need to move forward. I am okay, still sore a little bit, mostly my knee, shoulder, and back.
  2. I wish that the weather would be more stable here. I can’t really control this either, it actually has been causing most of my headaches and I am tired of it.
  3. I wish my friend Tom would get better soon. He is really sick and miserable. He is still working both jobs, so I am praying for him.
  4. I wish I knew where my Netflix movies I got yesterday are. I know they are here in the house, but exactly where I have no idea because I was not the one who brought them in the house.
  5. I wish that you all would have a great rest of the week! I am trying to get caught up on everyone’s blog. It is process because I have school going on too.

Catching Ya’all Up

Due to a book snafu, I have been on a break from school which ends today. Yep, I am back in class today. I missed it so it is not that big of a deal really. For the last couple of weeks I have been just relaxing because I had taken a really horribly boring business psychology class and I nearly did not make it through. I passed with a C- and I was so damn happy about that! I am on to child psych and hopefully it will not be so horrible. One can hope, right?

Yesterday I fell. I got up at my normal time of 3:30am and while walking to the bathroom, I think I tripped over the cat. I tried to catch myself and I only succeeded in hitting my head on the bedroom door, landing on my right knee, jarring my back, neck and right shoulder. I did  not know about the shoulder thing until I went to bed last night and laid on it. I am fine. Nothing broken, just my pride is wounded and I am bruised up a bit. I am very sore this morning though. Ugh.

So, as I have mentioned, my Facebook page was hacked and I can not get into it. I know that some of you who read here are friends with me on Facebook, so I have another page you can find here. For a while I could not get into this blog either, but have since fixed that with the help of my friend Peachy!! Thanks Peach!

Well, I think that this is all for right now. Ciao!!
