Love Food & Live Well- A Book Review

I have to admit right off the bat that I had a lot of trouble reading this book. I knew when I chose this book to review that it was a book about diet and God, I think that is what drew me to it in the first place. I usually do not read diet books because they get bogged down in their plan and it is not easy to read or very fun.

For the first ten chapters of this book, I was doing well. It was fun Chantel Hobbs tells her own and very personal story about weight loss and I was honestly hooked. I am personally not someone who can diet. I have tried and I just do not possess the will power to do so, but Chantel’s book is not exactly a ‘diet’ book as others are. Her plan is to eat 80 percent clean and the other 20 percent is yours to do with what you want. To me, it sounded good. As I got deeper into this book it really seemed easy enough.

Then I started losing interest in the book. I would pick up other books to read instead of this one, I picked this book up to read again and I could barely get three whole sentences read. I was just too bogged down to read this again. I forced myself to try and finish this book, but I could not. Chantel has a great writing style and my inability to read this book is all mine and none of it hers at all. I do recommend this book if you are serious about changing your life and hate diets. But ONLY if you are SERIOUS, because otherwise you will not read it all.

I received this book for free from Walter Brook Multnomah for the purpose of review in the Blogging for Books program.

Friday Night Musing

I am kind of glad that I have not had the itch to write in the last 24 hours because low and behold, Blogger was down for something like 20 hours of the last 24. Sadly, this is not a random occurrence, it seems to me that Blogger has more problems since they started trying to upgrade everything. Don’t get me wrong, I love the new features, but I would like them more if Blogger worked when I wanted to use them. Oh well, such is life with technology.

Statistics has started and it is okay so far I guess. I have had a low level headache all day long and not really sure why exactly. The Wings are out of the playoffs and while I am thrilled at the kind of hockey they showed us in the end, I do have to admit I am bummed out.

The Tigers are doing well again and that helps some, but I mourn the hockey season because to me, hockey means cooler weather and all. Speaking of the weather, sheesh, can someone please kick Mother Nature and get her into the right season?!? The 30-40 degree temperature changes are the reason I am having all these headaches. Ugh.

Well, I think this is it for now. Ciao!

School & Stuff

Original title, no? I have begun my statistics class and my head hurts already. In the first paragraph in chapter one of this text book they are already telling me that I will have to read this book a lot. Oh but they are sure I will learn statistics. Dear God. Actually, in my first week I have to read chapters 1-3 and understand them. Not that sure it will happen, but I am on reading chapter 3 now. I needed a break because my head was about to explode. I have a second text book on statistics and a Statistics for Dummies book as well. Come hell or high water I will learn this stuff.

Because after this class I will need a psychologist in the worst way. In other school related news, I am still enjoying school despite the paragraph above. It is challenging and I like that. Broadens my horizons I suppose.

Hope everyone had a great mother’s day, even those with pets as their children, cause face it, you still feed and take care of em’ you’re a mom too. I really won’t discuss my day here because well, I am past it and let’s just say it was not great.

The last few days have been difficult for me and I am not sure why exactly. I got to see my daughter’s picture at her 8th grade dance and she looked so beautiful. I might add it to my side bar at a later date. I don’t know, I guess I feel old. She is 14 now, my son will be 16 in Sept. I am kind of wondering what the hell happened?!?!?

Still going to church and I really enjoy that. It really revitalizes me for the week ahead. Which I need. I am still trying to finish that book for review, I think I might have to just give up and review it based on what I have read. I just can’t seem to read it anymore.. Well, better get back to my text book. Ciao!!

Good Intentions and All That Jazz..

They say that the road to hell is paved with good intentions, now I am not exactly sure who ‘they’ are, but I have heard that saying for most of my life. Usually when something does not get done that was supposed to be done and you had every intention on doing it but shit got out of hand and something had to slide and it was that.

Having said all that shit, I will admit that I was hoping to have my newest book review up here by now. It is not. Mainly because I have yet to actually finish reading the book. I am on chapter 10 and I am having a difficult time finishing it. :: Sigh:: I usually don’t have this issue with books, but I am just not into this one. I am going to take a few more days and see if I can finish it off or not. Either way I will post the review here.

This Sunday is Mother’s day, DO NOT FORGET MOM. Unless you are like me. LOL. Well since my mom and I don’t talk anymore, it is cool. Trust me it is for the best too! Well, I need to run. Ciao!!

My Good Luck Lately

I know it has been a while since I last wrote here. I am so amazed by my good fortune lately! First of all I won a copy of the 25th Anniversary commemorative edition of Battlefield of the Mind by Joyce Meyer, from my friend Rachel. Then Saturday, I won a free pizza and cutting board from my friend Becky. I am so excited!!

I normally don’t win anything at all, so winning a couple of things within a couple of weeks really came as quite a shock to me.

Today was pretty good, I went to church but got a headache during the service and it has not gone away yet. Sigh. My head hurts. Ugh. Well, this is going to be short. Ciao!

Funny Stuff That Happened To Me…

Through all the pain and crap with my back, some really funny stuff happened to me this week. One of which is that while flipping through my channel guide, I saw a movie that I wanted to watch and turned the channel on and after a few minutes could not understand why I was not understanding the movie. Well, it was because it was on the Spanish channel and I don’t speak Spanish.

Soooo, that explains why I was watching a movie I could not understand at all. And honestly, was watching it for like 20 minutes or so. Yeah. I know.

Another funny thing that happened was that I had ordered pizza Monday night. I asked for sausage and extra cheese and ham. I think I got bacon, ham and extra cheese. I say that I think because I ate almost the whole thing before I realized that it was wrong. Yeah I know.

Well those are two humorous stories from my week… Hope you enjoy them! Ciao!

Friday=Music Day

Most of my readers know that I am a music junkie. Way more cost effective than being a drug or alcohol junkie, just not sure if it is more fun or not. KIDDING People. On my MP3 player, I have playlists from 1980-1990. One for each year. For me, it is interesting to hear the musical progression of that decade.

Because I found an amazing deal on a Zune Mp3 player on Amazon, I upgraded from a 16GB to a 32GB. This is my first Zune and I have to admit that I am rather impressed with it. It is an HD model with a touchscreen. I can listen to HD radio if I so desire. A friend of mine, bought me a dock for my Zune. Since the majority of the docks out there are made for iPods specifically, it is not like I can just go buy one and plug any old MP3 player into it. If it was like that I would have gotten one a long time ago!

Now, to be honest, I never really saw the relevance of a dock for an MP3 player before. Maybe because like the MP3 player itself and my lap top, I had to have one to appreciate it all the more. This is a wonderful thing. It charges the MP3 player and plays the music so I can listen to it without having my earphones in. Which is kind of handy because now I can hear the phone ring. (A whole other story there)

The best part is that the dock was $43 on Amazon. Which is an amazing price! I had looked at them and I put it on my wish list for Amazon and a friend of mine got it for me as a late Christmas present. I am thrilled with it.

Okay, sorry back to music… On these playlists, there are between 76-80 songs from each year. Some I so remember and some, not so much. I totally love that I can listen to a play list of songs from like 1983. Some of the songs make me laugh and wonder why I liked that particular song in the first place. Some, well, I still totally love…

So, as the songs come on from my 1981 playlist, I will list the first ten here:

  1. Let’s Groove- Earth Wind & Fire
  2. The Best Of Times- Styx
  3. Queen of Hearts- Juice Newton
  4. Start Me Up- The Rolling Stones
  5. The Tide is High-Blondie
  6. Jesse’s Girl- Rick Springfield
  7. Love on the Rocks- Neil Diamond
  8. I Don’t Need You- Kenny Rogers
  9. For Your Eyes Only-Sheena Easton
  10. Urgent-Foreigner
